The WTO has announced its is disbanding and reforming as the Trade Regulation Organization (TRO), whose charter will be based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Such, at least, is the claim of
www.gatt.org, a culture jam so well executed it seems to have confused many on the left. Not to ruin a joke by explaining it, but this fake press release highlights what sort of international organization might actually be useful for humanity. "This will mean redressing the imbalances of existing trade agreements; providing access for developing countries to developed countries markets; assessing the effects past trade liberalization and redressing problems where possible; and developing an enforceable framework for special and differential treatment guaranteeing that development policies are not undermined by trade agreements."
Unfortunately, ideas this simple and intelligent aren't usually implemented by powerful organizations without a struggle, and this is no exception.
